James D’Arcy
James D'Arcy is a British actor, writer and director, known for his roles in Agent Carter, Avengers: Endgame, Homeland, Dunkirk and Oppenheimer.
Born and raised in London, D'Arcy trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), graduating in 1995. He quickly gained recognition for his stage and television work, before making his mark in historical dramas and psychological thrillers.
Early career highlights included lead roles in The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby (2001) and Revelation (2001), establishing him as a versatile presence on screen.
From 2015 to 2016, he portrayed Edwin Jarvis in Marvel’s Agent Carter, a role he reprised in Avengers: Endgame (2019), making him the first Marvel TV actor to cross into the cinematic universe. His performance as Jarvis, a loyal and quick-witted butler, earned him praise for bringing heart and humor to the franchise.
D'Arcy’s international work includes a recurring role in Homeland (Season 8), where he played MI6 operative Thomas Anson, as well as Christopher Nolan’s World War II epic Dunkirk (2017), in which he starred as Lieutenant Colonel Winnant. In 2023, he appeared in Oppenheimer as Dr. Patrick Blackett, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist, in another collaboration with Nolan. Other notable roles include First Lieutenant Thomas Pullings in Peter Weir’s Master and Commander, and numerous roles in the Wachowksi and Tom Tykwer sci-fi epic Cloud Atlas.
Beyond acting, D'Arcy has explored writing and directing. His directorial debut Made in Italy (2020), starring Liam Neeson, received attention for its poignant exploration of grief and father-son relationships.
