Charles Edwards
Charles Edwards is an English actor known for his work across television, film and theatre, recognised for roles such as Celebrimbor in the Prime Video fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Michael Gregson in the acclaimed period drama Downton Abbey, and Richard Garland in the ITV wartime drama The Halcyon.
After training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Edwards began building a strong reputation in British theatre, appearing in numerous productions with organisations such as the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. His early television work showcased his versatility, with guest appearances in series such as The Bill, Midsomer Murders and Poirot.
Edwards gained widespread recognition for his recurring role as publisher Michael Gregson in the ITV hit Downton Abbey, where his storyline opposite Lady Edith became one of the show’s most memorable arcs. Continuing to expand his television presence, Edwards later appeared in major productions including the BBC adaptation of War & Peace and ITV’s lavish period drama The Halcyon, where he played the hotel’s pragmatic manager, Richard Garland.
In recent years, Edwards has reached a new global audience through his portrayal of the legendary Elven smith Celebrimbor in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the elf responsible for the creation of the rings themselves.
Alongside his television and film work, Edwards continues to be highly respected within the theatre world, frequently returning to the stage for acclaimed performances in classic and contemporary productions.
